Euro Earthship
A 1,850 sf passive solar residence in Taos, New Mexico, completely off-grid. Its owners bought it in 2007.
In the owners’ words.
A passive solar house built from natural and upcycled materials, including earth-packed tires. It runs completely off-grid, providing its own electricity, potable water, contained sewage treatment, heating and cooling, and food production.
Full architectural services for an off-grid residence: design development, permitting and construction. Our role was project manager and builder.
The owners bought the home in 2007, when this was the newest custom model with a greenhouse. They describe hand-crafted doors and cabinets, fitted flagstone floors through the home and the growing space, copper detailing around the windows, adobe-finished walls and vigas in every room. Planters in the bedroom and great room and floor planters in the greenhouse grow fig trees and vegetables. They added a wood stove for the view room, and seldom need it.
