Of Taos, For Taos, By Taos: rooted in equity, resilience, and inclusion

Own a Home in Taos. Live with Purpose.

Chamisa Verde is a new deed-restricted housing development offering 7 energy-efficient, site-built homes for local Taos workers and residents.

What Is Chamisa Verde?

A pilot project by the Town of Taos and Pangea Design | Build, Chamisa Verde creates permanently affordable housing that is energy-efficient, community-rooted, and designed for long-term local ownership.

  • 7 single-family homes
  • 1,000 square feet and 900 square feet units / 3 bedrooms and 2 bedrooms
  • All-electric, solar-ready
  • Locally built with local materials

Why Deed-Restricted Housing?

To protect affordability for generations and ensure homes stay in the hands of the community.

  • Income-based eligibility
  • Primary residence requirement
  • Resale restrictions with price cap
  • Lottery-based buyer selection

These protections are written into the deed and monitored by Pangea Academy and the Town of Taos.

Location

Chamisa Verde is located in the heart of Taos — walkable to schools, parks, and services.

  • On Camino de la Cruz Alta
  • 5 minutes to downtown
  • Mountain views and quiet streets
  • Adjacent to future community green space

Sustainable, Efficient, Local Construction

Built by local tradespeople using high-performance materials and passive design principles:

  • Insulation for high R-value
  • All-electric systems (heat pumps, induction-ready)
  • Low-flow plumbing and LED lighting
  • Local Lumber and Cement
  • Future solar-ready infrastructure
